How to Celebrate the Holiday of Love during the Covid-19? Love Yourself and Others.
Written by –Olivia van den Broek-Neri

Valentine’s Day has become more popular in the Netherlands, and more commercial. But who couldn’t use more love in their life? Especially now? That is why I recommend that we all celebrate love in February!

I know what you may be thinking: ‘Yeah, Valentine’s Day is great for those who are in a couple, but what about the rest of us?’ My answer is this: If you are one of the lucky ones who finds yourself surrounded by love, why not share it with someone who may be lacking love?

We all know how it feels to be away from family and friends. And it takes times to build up friendships when you move. Now that we are forced to stay home, it makes it even more difficult to meet people. That is why we need to come together – at a safe distance and according to the governmental guidelines – to help each other get through what we are dealing with now

So how do we spread love and warmth to each other?

Smiling

One way you can do this is by saying ‘hello’ or smiling at someone on the street. Chances are, they will smile back. If not, share a smile with someone else! You can do this every time you are on your daily walk and make it a habit. Sometimes, a smile can be that one thing that brightens up someone’s day.

Listening

Other times people need more. Next time you are talking with a friend, ask him or her how they are feeling, and give them time to respond. Take the time to really hear them. Listening to them will show them that you care, and perhaps you can help them get through a difficult time.

Self-care

It is also important that you love yourself. Do this by taking care of yourself both physically and emotionally. Plan some ‘me-time’ every day. Do you need some inspiration?

Here are some quick tips for self-care:

  • Do something you love every day! Whether it is going for a walk or reading a book. The choice is yours!

  • Allow yourself to complain. When you are speaking with someone, it is okay to let them know that you are hurting. Perhaps you are having a tough time and are feeling lonely. Let someone know!
  • Tell someone that you love them. Whether it is your partner, a family member, or your pet! Telling someone that you love them will make them feel good, and the act of showing you care will help you to feel good, too!

How else can you show your love? Follow the rules and regulations! Wash your hands, keep a distance and stay at home if you are sick. Because in the end, the best way to show you love and care is to help other people to stay healthy.

Share the Love and Light as always.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
